Before you cancel: would Standby be better?
For a seasonal break, Standby Mode keeps a 500 Kbps connection for a small monthly fee; see our Standby Mode guide. Either way, getting full service back later depends on capacity in your area.
How to cancel, step by step
- Log in to your Starlink account on starlink.com.
- On the Home page, select Your Subscription, then Manage next to your service plan.
- Click Cancel Service. To send the kit back, tick “I would like to return my hardware” (if the box isn’t there, the kit isn’t eligible).
- Confirm.
Changed your mind? Until the cancellation takes effect, click Resume in the “Your service plan will end on…” alert at the top of the page (Starlink: How do I cancel service?).
Timing
- Service stays active until the paid-for date and drops off future billing.
- Starlink’s Terms say you must cancel before your invoice statement is generated to avoid the next month’s bill. Starlink doesn’t publish how many days before the due date that happens; check your billing page.
- Billing runs on UTC: changes must be in before 12:00 AM UTC on your billing day, which is 8 PM EDT (7 PM EST) the evening before in US Eastern time.
Refunds and returns
- Starlink’s Terms allow returning an undamaged, untampered and unmodified kit, plus accessories bought on starlink.com, within 30 days of the Payment Due Date for a full refund “for any reason, including the inability to receive Services due to field-of-view issues.”
- Starlink emails a prepaid label with the subject “Your Starlink Return”. You can re-download it on desktop from your Order Summary page.
- Stow the dish, re-box it, send only Starlink equipment and drop it at the carrier on the label.
- The refund of hardware and the first month’s fee (not shipping) arrives within 10–15 business days. Returns outside 30 days get no refund.
Rented and no-cost kits
Since October 2025, Standard 4 and Standard 4 X kits provided as no-cost rentals must be returned in good condition within 30 days of cancelling. Normal wear and tear is expected; otherwise you’re charged the full price of the kit. Other rented kits follow the same 30-day rule, and rented kits stay Starlink’s property.
Service commitments
If you chose a 12- or 24-month service commitment in exchange for a free kit, Starlink’s US Terms apply a fixed change fee, set in the Terms, if you cancel, change plan, move address or transfer the service during the commitment. It isn’t prorated. The fee isn’t charged if you return the kit within the initial trial period. Check your order confirmation for which commitment you have.
Shop accessories
Shop orders can be cancelled in the one to three hours after ordering. After that, refuse delivery or return the item (Starlink: How do I cancel my shop order?).
Keeping or selling the kit
Owners of purchased kits may be able to transfer service to someone else if the account is paid in full and in good standing and there’s capacity, but not until the earlier of 120 days after purchase or 90 days after activation. Rented kits can’t be transferred. Before handing a kit over, do a factory reset: see our router reset guide.
FAQ

How hard is it to cancel?
It takes a few clicks online, with no phone call needed.
Cancelling because of obstructions?
Try the obstruction map guide and installation planning first.
