Our research and corrections process

No, Starlink has not launched in India. As of October 9, 2026, it holds a licence but has no commercial service, takes no orders there and has not announced Indian prices. Launch is waiting on a government security assessment and on spectrum assignment, and no date has been given.

Approved so far

  • A GMPCS licence from the Department of Telecommunications (June 2025) and IN-SPACe authorisation for the first-generation constellation (ThePrint). These let Starlink prepare for the market, not sell service.
  • On the infrastructure side, a SpaceX executive said at the India Mobile Congress that Starlink has built 20 gateway sites and will keep Indian user data in India (ThePrint).

Still pending

The Ministry of Communications says all three licensed satellite operators (Starlink, Eutelsat OneWeb and Jio Satellite) must pass a security assessment before they can seek spectrum, and it has given no timeline (Outlook Business). Spectrum charges still need further government ratification, and Starlink also needs foreign-investment approval (ThePrint).

What about the prices circulating online?

Indian prices that briefly appeared on Starlink’s website in December 2025 were test data shown in error. Starlink said its India website is not live and pricing has not been announced (The Economic Times). Ignore any figure that isn’t on Starlink’s official site.
