Our research and corrections process

Your Starlink router decides whether you can plug in wired devices, add mesh points or use your own router, and how you reset it. Find your router in the table below, then go to the guide for what you want to do.

Not sure which dish you own? Start with our model history guide. The Starlink Mini dish has its own built-in router, which is different from the separate Router Mini.

Decisions you’ll face

Plugging in wired devices

Only the Gen 2 router has no built-in port. See do you need the Starlink Ethernet Adapter? for a kit-by-kit answer.

Extending Wi-Fi with mesh

Router Mini can mesh with the Gen 2 router, Router 3, other Router Minis and the Starlink Mini, but not with the Gen 1 router or third-party mesh systems (Router Mini install guide). Starlink recommends a wired link between routers where you can. See our Starlink mesh Wi-Fi guide.

Using your own router (bypass mode)

Bypass mode turns off Starlink’s Wi-Fi so your own router can take over. Undoing it requires a factory reset (Starlink Standard kit guide). See our guide to bypass mode and third-party routers.

Resetting

Each router resets differently. Use our router reset guide and match the steps to your model.

Accessories and kits

Before buying cables, mounts or extra routers, check what fits with our accessory compatibility guide. If you’re still choosing a kit, compare them in the kit comparison buying guide. For Starlink’s compact router, see our Router Mini guide.

The FCC authorized a Starlink router with model number UTR-261 on August 13, 2026 (FCC ID 2AWHPR261). Coverage of the filing describes it as Starlink’s first Wi-Fi 7 router (PCMag; Notebookcheck). In September, Starlink published support documents calling it “Router 4” and confirming Wi-Fi 7. PCMag reported it wasn’t on general sale, though some customers said they’d received free invitations listing a $115 price (PCMag UK). Treat it as not yet generally available. We’ll update this page when it goes on sale.
